Africa Rail 2025: A Milestone Gathering in Shaping the Future of African Rail

Africa Rail 2025, held on 13–14 May 2025 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, brought together over 5,000 rail professionals, innovators, and decision-makers from across Africa and beyond. The landmark event served as a dynamic platform for exchanging ideas, showcasing innovation, and forging strategic partnerships to drive the continent’s rail sector forward.

The event focused on key themes such as efficiency, sustainability, and digital transformation in rail, addressing both the challenges and opportunities facing the industry today. With more than 120 global and regional exhibitors, attendees engaged with industry leaders including PRASA, Alstom, Wabtec, DB Regio, Inderr Engineering, Senceive, and Edilon Sedra, who showcased groundbreaking technologies and solutions tailored to Africa’s evolving rail needs.

More than 150 speakers delivered insightful presentations on topics ranging from infrastructure financing to smart mobility and cross-border connectivity. High-level representatives from the South African Government, Republic of Liberia, Ghana Railway Development Authority, and the International Union of Railways (UIC) offered valuable perspectives on the future of rail across the continent.

“Each year, Africa Rail becomes the epicentre of rail innovation in Africa,” said Sean Hartley, General Manager of Transport at Terrapinn MEA. “This year, we pushed the boundaries even further, providing insights, solutions, and connections that will shape the next phase of progress.”

From high-speed rail to sustainable infrastructure and digital integration, Africa Rail 2025 marked a pivotal moment for redefining mobility and connectivity in Africa. The event not only celebrated innovation but also reinforced the critical role of rail in supporting economic growth and regional integration.
