Stena Line has taken a strategic step to enhance the resilience and reliability of its freight and passenger services across the Irish Sea by entering into a temporary operational collaboration with Irish Ferries. The agreement, running from 20 November to 4 December 2025, allows both operators to share freight and passenger capacity while Stena Line undertakes essential dry-docking and maintenance of its vessels.
During this period, Stena Line will continue operating its Dublin to Holyhead service, allocating space for Irish Ferries customers. In parallel, Irish Ferries will provide capacity on the Rosslare to Pembroke route for Stena Line’s freight and passenger clients. Stena Line personnel will be on hand at Pembroke Port to assist customers and ensure seamless service during the temporary changes.
The initiative allows Stena Line to perform planned maintenance at Fishguard Port, reinforcing its long-term commitment to service quality, operational reliability, and logistical efficiency. According to Johan Edelman, Trade Director for Irish Sea South at Stena Line, “This temporary operational model safeguards continuity for our freight and travel customers while ensuring that vessel maintenance and upgrades can be completed. It strengthens the resilience of our operations and guarantees service reliability.”
For freight operators and bulk cargo stakeholders, the collaboration highlights the importance of operational flexibility and contingency planning in maritime logistics. Stena Line continues to prioritize customer needs, ensuring that freight transport and passenger services remain uninterrupted even during essential maintenance activities. Bookings and updates on service changes are available directly via the Stena Line website.
