AGL Madagascar has successfully completed a large-scale heavy modular transport operation, delivering 51 oversized prefabricated modules from the Port of Toamasina to Antananarivo through a fully integrated multimodal logistics solution.
The project supported a major modular construction development and demonstrated AGL Madagascar’s expertise in managing complex heavy-haul logistics involving maritime transport, port handling, customs clearance, abnormal road transport and precision heavy lifting.
The oversized modules, measuring up to 17.2 metres in length and 4.65 metres in width, arrived at the Port of Toamasina before being handled by AGL Madagascar’s specialised logistics teams. Following efficient port operations and customs clearance, the cargo began its 350-kilometre journey to Madagascar’s capital.
Transporting the oversized structures required extensive route planning and engineering assessments. AGL Madagascar conducted detailed surveys to evaluate road conditions, bridge capacities, overhead clearances and terrain challenges before deploying customised multi-axle trailers and specialised heavy-haul transport equipment.
One of the operation’s most demanding stages involved crossing the Mangoro Bridge, where engineers implemented advanced load-distribution techniques and carefully coordinated convoy movements to ensure the safe passage of the heavy cargo without disrupting surrounding infrastructure or traffic.
Upon arrival in Antananarivo, AGL Madagascar completed the final installation using 130-tonne and 250-tonne mobile cranes. Working under strict Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) procedures, heavy-lift specialists positioned each module with high precision to meet the project’s engineering requirements.
The successful execution of the operation reinforces AGL Madagascar’s capabilities in delivering turnkey heavy logistics solutions for industrial, infrastructure and commercial developments across Africa.
