PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) has hit an all-time high in coal sales, reaching a remarkable 42.9 million tons in 2024, a 16% increase from the previous year. This milestone marks a significant leap from 26.1 million tons in 2020, growing year after year to 37 million tons in 2023.
“We’ve seen a major surge in our coal exports, totaling 20.3 million tons—a 30% increase compared to last year,” says Niko Chandra, Corporate Secretary of PTBA. “Domestic sales also grew by 6%, with a total of 22.6 million tons.”
The company’s domestic market still leads, accounting for 53% of total sales, while 47% of coal sales are now dedicated to international exports. Notably, India was a key export market, with sales rising by 32% to 6.4 million tons. PTBA also saw exceptional growth in exports to Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia, with sales to Vietnam surging 250% to 3 million tons, Thailand rising 153% to 1.6 million tons, and Malaysia soaring by 221% to 888.7 thousand tons.
Backing this strong sales performance is PTBA’s record-breaking coal production of 43.3 million tons and 38.2 million tons of coal transportation in 2024.
“Our impressive operational performance reaffirms PTBA’s commitment to providing Endless Energy to support the nation’s goal of energy self-sufficiency,” Niko adds.
Looking ahead, PTBA is targeting 50 million tons of coal production, 50.1 million tons of sales, and 43.2 million tons in coal transportation for 2025. As market conditions evolve, PTBA is adapting its strategy to navigate the dynamic external factors and further solidify its leadership in the industry.
