Atlas Air Worldwide has completed its previously announced acquisition of a 49% minority stake in Air Atlanta, strengthening its position in the global air freight market and expanding access to widebody freighter capacity across key international trade routes.
As part of the agreement, Atlas subsidiary Titan Aviation Holdings has separately acquired the aircraft owned by the Air Atlanta group of companies. The aircraft will be leased back to Air Atlanta, allowing the airline to continue operating its fleet while supporting long-term fleet management and operational efficiency.
Headquartered in Iceland with operating platforms in both Iceland and Malta, Air Atlanta provides a range of aviation services, including Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance (ACMI) leasing, CMI services, passenger and cargo charter operations, and aircraft management solutions.
The airline operates a fleet of 14 widebody freighter aircraft, including Boeing 747F and Boeing 777F models, alongside four Boeing 777 passenger aircraft. The partnership is expected to enhance Atlas Air Worldwide’s ability to meet growing global demand for air cargo capacity while strengthening its international operating network.
Atlas Air Worldwide said the investment expands its global operating platform and improves access to widebody aircraft serving major cargo markets. The collaboration also creates new opportunities to support customers with flexible and reliable air freight solutions.

Air Atlanta Chief Executive Baldvin Hermannsson described the partnership as an important step in the company’s development, noting that the two businesses will build on their complementary strengths to create additional value for customers and pursue new growth opportunities.
Following the completion of the transaction, Air Atlanta will continue to operate under its existing leadership team and organisational structure. The company’s management team will retain a 51% controlling interest in the airline operating companies while working closely with Atlas Air Worldwide on commercial initiatives.
The strategic investment highlights continued confidence in the air cargo sector, where demand for reliable widebody freighter capacity remains strong as global supply chains continue to evolve.
