Algoma Takes Delivery of Three Vessels in a Landmark Week

Algoma Central Corporation has reached a historic milestone, taking delivery of three new vessels from three different countries within a single week—an unprecedented achievement for the company. Since 2013, Algoma has built 23 vessels, with 12 more currently on order or under construction.

“This milestone underscores our commitment to making significant capital investments to meet the evolving needs of our customers in the U.S., Canada, and beyond,” said Gregg Ruhl, President and CEO of Algoma Central Corporation. “It’s a tremendous undertaking that highlights our focus on customer service, fleet renewal, and strategic growth. A special thank you to our Bear Family and partners—these new vessels are the result of world-class collaboration and a world-class team.”

A Trio of New Arrivals

On February 25, 2025, FureBear, a joint venture between Algoma and Sweden’s Furetank, took delivery of its fifth new product tanker, Fure Vesborg. This climate-friendly, dual-fuel vessel loaded its first cargo in China and is set to begin trading in Northern Europe by Q2 2025. The remaining five vessels in the FureBear newbuild program are scheduled for delivery throughout 2025 and early 2026.

On February 26, 2025, Algoma Endeavour was delivered at the 3 Maj Shipyard in Rijeka, Croatia. This 740-foot, forward-mounted self-unloading vessel is the final addition to Algoma’s Equinox Class series, bringing the fleet total to 12. Optimized for operations on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway, Endeavour joins Algoma Intrepid and Algoma Innovator in the company’s domestic dry-bulk fleet.

On March 4, 2025, Algoma East Coast was delivered from South Korea’s HD Hyundai Mipo shipyard. This methanol-ready, ice-class product tanker is the first of two vessels designed to serve markets along the Canadian and U.S. east coasts. Her sister ship, Algoma Acadian, is scheduled for delivery in late March.

As Algoma continues its fleet modernization, each new vessel strengthens the company’s ability to deliver stability, reliability, and sustainability to its North American and global customers. These investments reinforce Algoma’s role in supporting critical industrial and manufacturing sectors while driving forward its commitment to efficiency and environmental responsibility.
