New grab for Genoa Bulk Terminal
Through Port Supplies Srl in Modena, Terminal Rinfuse Genova (TRGE – Genoa Bulk Terminal) has acquired a new 5.5 m3 mechanical clamshell grab from Peiner SMAG. It will be used to unload salt and sand at TRGE’s Ponte Rubattino Quay.
Previously a Spinelli Group operation, since 2017, TRGE has had two owners – Spinelli with 55% and MSC with 45%. In December 2021, the port authority (AdSP Mar Ligure Occidentale) renewed the company’s concession for a further 30 years on the basis of an investment commitment of €55M.
“TRGE is a new customer both for Port Supplies and Peiner SMAG, as up to now it has used grabs from an Italian competitor,” said Giulio Ferrari from Port Supplies.
TRGE occupies an area of 120,000 m2 with three linear quays (Rubattino, San Giorgio and the former Idroscalo quay) with depths alongside up to 11.58m. It has two warehouses occupying a total of 15,000 m2 and operates four cranes ranging from 12t to 50t SWL and has 2,500 m2 of conveyor. Ground equipment includes nine rubber-tyred shovels, four FLTs, two excavators, a tanker truck and a mini-shovel.
Ponte Rubattino is reserved for ‘white bulks’ and the quay is equipped with two 12t capacity Ansaldo gantry grab unloaders dating from the 1980s.
