Cyclists are being encouraged to take on ‘Miles for Mariners’ to help raise vital funds for the global maritime charity Sailors’ Society.
The one-day fundraiser – ‘Miles for Mariners: one day, one island, one ride’ – on September 27, offers cyclists the opportunity to circumnavigate the Isle of Wight with their maritime industry peers.
Offering either a 100km or 80km route around the island, the challenge event is taking place in partnership with the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF).
Sailors’ Society’s CEO, Sara Baade, said: “This is a ride, not a race, and it will allow cyclists to test themselves over the distance – and as they complete the miles, they will know they are helping us to provide 24/7 global support to seafarers and their families.
“We are delighted to partner with OCIMF and extend a welcome to anyone to join us and connect with others from the industry on this cycling adventure. This is an event you won’t want to miss out on.”
OCIMF Managing Director, Karen Davis, said: “We are delighted to partner with Sailors’ Society for the Miles for Mariners fundraising event. This exciting one-day cycling challenge across the Isle of Wight offers a wonderful opportunity to unite maritime industry professionals in support of the Sailors’ Society’s 24/7 global wellbeing services for seafarers and their families.
“At OCIMF, we acknowledge seafarers’ crucial role in maintaining global trade flow, and we are dedicated to backing initiatives that promote their wellbeing. Come join the challenge!”
Participants will be fuelled by a pit-stop lunch and energy boosting snacks and achievements will be celebrated afterwards with an informal meal and drinks.
