Keeping Cool, Compliant and Cost-effective
“Today, equipment availability is the top priority for mines aiming to maximize uptime and productivity,” states Brenton Spies, Managing Director of Booyco Engineering. “Whenever an HVAC system in a cab requires repair or replacement, the machine sits idle, resulting in costly production losses. Our heavy-duty designs and local manufacturing ensure these systems are reliable and long-lasting.”
Meeting high standards for both productivity and safety, mines increasingly adopt benchmarks like the ISO 23875 standard, which focuses on air quality and driver health. Booyco Engineering’s solutions are specifically designed to comply with this standard.
One recent innovation showcased at Electra Mining Africa is Booyco’s APU (Auxiliary Power Unit), allowing the in-cab air conditioning to function without relying on the mining truck’s main engine. This means operators can keep their cabs cool without idling the main engine while awaiting loading.
“By using the APU, operators can power down the main engine while keeping the cab comfortable,” says Brenton. “This leads to substantial diesel savings, with mining trucks otherwise burning between 30 and 50 liters per hour when idling. It also helps reduce the mine’s carbon footprint, which is becoming a strategic focus.”
Supporting safety and operational efficiency, Booyco Engineering also provides Sy-Klone technology for cab filtration and air precleaning systems, enhancing engine performance and longevity.
