Bruks Siwertell Secures Major Contract for Ship Loader at US Port of Long Beach
Bruks Siwertell has been awarded a high-profile contract to deliver a state-of-the-art Bruks ship loader to the Port of Long Beach in California. The contract follows a competitive public request for proposals (RFP), where Bruks Siwertell’s innovative design and technical expertise stood out.
“The Port of Long Beach is one of the busiest and most influential ports in the US, known for its stringent environmental regulations,” says Daniel Pace, Sales Manager Americas, Port Technology, Bruks Siwertell. “Our successful bid showcases our ability to provide a customized, technically advanced solution that meets both operational and environmental challenges. It also solidifies our reputation as a leading partner in global port technology.”
The Bruks ship loader, with its low weight and efficient design, is tailored to fit perfectly within the existing dock space while loading larger Capesize vessels. It will handle a variety of dry bulk materials, including coal and petcoke at a capacity of 5,000t/h, and soda ash, pyrobor, and sulfate at 2,000t/h, loading vessels up to 120,000 dwt.
“These materials have distinct characteristics, demanding specific design features,” Pace explains. “To prevent cross-contamination, multiple washdowns between vessel loads will be required. For coal and petcoke, we’ll implement a water misting system and a specialized free-fall spout. When handling soda ash, a dust collection system and cascade spout will be needed.”
To meet California’s environmental regulations, the system will ensure all washdown water is directed to designated treatment areas on the dock, maintaining full containment.
As part of a turnkey contract, the ship loader will be delivered fully assembled via heavy-lift vessel to the Port’s Pier G bulk terminal, with final connections and commissioning completed on-site by Bruks Siwertell. The ship loader is scheduled to enter service by the end of 2026.
