Çelebi Aviation has officially entered the Kenyan aviation and air cargo sector following the acquisition of Africa Flight Services, a cargo and ground handling operator based at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The Turkey-headquartered ground handling company acquired 100% of Africa Flight Services, also known as Transglobal Cargo Centre Ltd, in a deal valued at approximately $40.1 million earlier this year.
Strengthening Presence in Africa
The move marks an important step in Çelebi Aviation’s broader expansion strategy across Africa, with the company describing Kenya as a high-potential aviation market.
Operating from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Africa Flight Services provides a range of services including ground handling, air cargo operations, and warehousing solutions.
According to the company, the expansion reflects growing confidence in East Africa’s aviation sector and aligns with its long-term objective of increasing its footprint across the continent.
Focus on Operational Efficiency and Growth
Çelebi Aviation said it aims to use its global expertise to improve operational efficiency, service quality, and long-term value creation within the Kenyan market.
The company continues to prioritise regions where aviation growth and cargo demand present sustainable long-term opportunities.
Shift from Tanzania to Kenya
Prior to entering Kenya, Çelebi Aviation operated ground handling and cargo services at Julius Nyerere International Airport under a concession agreement that began in 2021.
However, the company recently chose not to renew its operations in Tanzania, stating that it intends to focus on markets offering stronger long-term growth potential.
With its latest investment in Kenya, Çelebi Aviation is positioning itself to capitalise on the continued growth of African aviation, logistics, and regional air cargo connectivity.
