Scan Global Logistics (SGL) has strengthened its presence in East Africa with the opening of its first office in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This strategic expansion enhances SGL’s ability to meet the growing logistics demands of a key economic hub while reinforcing its footprint in the region.
According to a statement from the multinational freight forwarder, the new office will facilitate efficient customs clearance and last-mile delivery services, tailored to the increasing needs of local and regional markets.
Strategic Growth in East Africa
Lars Syberg, CEO for EMEA (excluding the Nordics), emphasized that the Tanzanian market presents a rising demand for a strong local presence. He stated that this investment would boost SGL’s capability to support international partners while positioning the company for the expected surge in East African trade.
“The timing is ideal for SGL to establish itself in Tanzania and ensure we maintain the high service standards our customers expect in both origin and destination markets,” Syberg noted.
Leadership and Regional Connectivity
Jan Andersson has been appointed Managing Director and will lead a dedicated team focused on providing customized solutions for local, regional, and global clients. He highlighted that access to the Port of Dar es Salaam gives SGL a strategic advantage in serving landlocked nations like Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), unlocking new opportunities for cross-border logistics.
“Tanzania is a natural next step for us, especially after our successful entry into Kenya last year. Many of our customers operate in both markets, making this expansion a logical progression,” Andersson explained.
Comprehensive Logistics Services
The new office will offer a full range of logistics services, including:
✅ Ocean & Air Freight
✅ Project Cargo & Road Transport
✅ Warehousing & Customs Clearance
✅ Domestic & Transit Solutions for Landlocked Countries
This move aligns with SGL’s strategy to tap into Tanzania’s growing trade sectors, such as agriculture, mining, and infrastructure development, which are experiencing significant investment and expansion.
By leveraging this dynamic economy, SGL aims to establish itself as a preferred logistics partner for businesses operating in these industries.
The expansion underscores SGL’s commitment to enhancing its service offerings in East Africa, solidifying its role as a key player in the region’s logistics sector.
